Contamination Control
Adequate ventilation, isolation and air filtration, using hospital-grade HEPA and ULPA filters, in conjunction with UVGI air sterilization, have proven highly effective at removing these deadly microbes from the air stream, greatly reducing the potential for infection transmission to patients, health care workers and visitors. In its Guidelines for Environmental Infection Control in Health care Facilities, the CDC recommends the use of portable, industrial-grade HEPA filter units capable of filtration rates in the range of 300 to 800 CFM to augment the removal of respirable particles. Our HEPA filter units are capable of capturing airborne contaminants as small as .3 microns (see figure below for relative pathogen sizes). Negative room air pressure further prevents cross-contamination so that air flows from adjacent areas into the negative pressure room, preventing the escape of contaminated air. Our negative pressure ACCU units offer airflow ranges from 300 to 2000 CFM, are compact and portable and easily adaptable for permanent installation in isolation rooms, critical care units and more.
In a study conducted at the NatroMed medical facility in Vancouver, Canada, air sampling before and after installation of an air purification system indicated airborne mold within the medical facility to be 10 to 1000 times lower after installation of an UVGI purifying unit.
